Future Projects: The sequels to “The Pyromancer’s Scroll”
Corsairs, wyverns, a race to the edge of the world, and dragons!
The Pyromancer's Scroll will be the first in a series of 5 books. Each book will feature new protagonists and a self-contained plot, but all the books will be part of a larger cosmopolitical arc. (No, I did not invent that word, to my surprise.) Each book will also have crossover characters from earlier books (somewhat akin to the Chronicles of Narnia series).
Book 2: The Vivamancer’s Song
I've long wanted to write a story that features young parents as the protagonists—not a story about their parenting, but one where they embark on an epic quest . . . while being young parents.
Enter Corbin and Vivi, a husband and wife. When Vivi's ship is captured by corsairs, she is conscripted into the corsair fleet as the caller for a team of rowing slaves, forced to use her magical songs to keep time and energize the rowers. When a chance to escape presents itself, Vivi faces a choice: Save herself and abandon her enslaved companions? Or stay and try to find a way to save them all?
Hundreds of leagues away, Corbin volunteers to be the chief navigator for the armada tasked with sinking the corsair fleet once and for all . . . while keeping his four children, ages 1 to 12, out of harm's way. He hopes to find his wife by finding the corsairs. But when those two trails diverge, he faces a choice: Keep searching for his wife, who he isn't even sure is still alive? Or fulfill his duty to bring down the corsair threat?
Book 3: The Terramancers’ Quest
Queen Adara Everborn needs a husband. A good one. One who can reign as king beside her. So she does the practical thing, invites a dozen carefully-vetted candidates to the capital, and holds a bachelorette-style house party.
A young prince named Kellen is one of those lucky suitors. But he's not here to woo Adara's hand. He's here to find something: a secret map, hidden inside one of the books in Adara's royal library. The only problem: he doesn't know which book. And the map is invisible.
While Kellen struggles to keep up his pretense, Adara begins to grow suspicious. And time is growing short. Kellen's sister, Kaya, desperately needs the information in that map. Kaya is on a quest to the (literal) edge of the world, racing to stop servants of the Void from a heinous act of sabotage that will throw the world into turmoil. And unless she wants to plummet over the edge of the world on a river of churning ice, she better have that map soon . . .
Book 4: The Verbomancer’s Choice
I can't give away too much without revealing spoilers of earlier books. But here's my shot:
A multi-ton piece of machinery must be hauled from one corner of the world to the other. Oceans, mountains, and hostile countries must be crossed. An international expedition, involving thousands of soldiers speaking four languages, must be launched. Only one man has the requisite skills to lead it.
But can he be trusted?
Book 5: The Aquamancer's Secret, and Other Tales: A Zenitha Anthology
“The Aquamancer’s Secret” is a short story that I released in August 2024 as a pilot for The Pyromancer’s Scroll. Set a year before the prologue of my book, it includes cameos from Halorn, Durrin, and Twigly as it follows a young apprentice's attempts to discover her master's trade secret.
I plan to write many other short stories—most of them featuring Twigly and her crew—over the course of the series, and then publish them in one volume as an anthology.
"A multi-ton piece of machinery must be hauled from one corner of the world to the other."
Ooooh, this sounds exciting! I can't wait!
