I think I know the secret behind Skagar's boundless energy: He never sits still. I have noticed that when I sit down, I get very sleepy and tired. This is why it is best to adopt Skagar's policy of always being on the move. Try it! Even when eating your meals! Movement equals vitality!

Elandria must be experiencing a great shortage of revenue. Adara mentions THREE meetings in ONE day with members of her treasury . . . meetings that did NOT go well. Skagar brings it up again when considering hiring wagons and workers and the great need to collect taxes. I suppose the shortage in haeber crystals isn't helping either.

I would laugh at the mention of 17 meetings in one day . . . if it weren't so pathetically sad! I am tempted to call this hyperbole, but then I read the effects on Adara, and realize it must be true. What normal person could ever endure so many meetings?! Especially with Skagar?

And what normal person could be expected to make so many important decisions? Thank you for the reminder from Cymer that Adara is not a normal person. I can tell by the way the people of Elandria treat their queen that they really do believe in her gifts of wisdom. I would love to see Adara believe in this too!

I admire you for standing up most of the time! I guess I could try using a standing desk or an exercise ball for a chair . . .

I once had 8 or so meetings in two days . . . and that was incredibly exhausting. (I'm scared to know how many meetings, events, or functions people like the president of the US have each day.)

The war with Calamar has easily been the largest and most protracted conflict Elandria has had to fight in several decades. And, crucially, it is not a war of conquest, where Elandria gets spoils to replenish its war chest, but a defensive war fought on its own territory. Every town and province it loses is another town and province that can't provide tax revenue or resources. And as more and more farmers are conscripted to fight, the agricultural production goes down, further exacerbating the issue.

And, predictably, very few foreign countries or international banking families are willing to loan silver to a nation on the brink of collapse.

Elandria used to be an extremely wealthy, prosperous nation. Now it's tottering on the brink of collapse.

Ooph. Poor Adara.

Also, Skagar . . . TEN nested prepositional phrases? REALLY??!! The Lurrian International Scribal Conventions suggest a cap of three, maximum!

Sounds like Adara needs better staff. You should apply.

Hmm. Maybe, if I wasn't an ocean away in a remote research facility, I would.
