You say that Halorn wore a wedding ring on his left hand. What are some of the traditions surrounding marriage of humans in the world of Zenitha? Are they similar to Earth?
********
Most realistic line in the chapter having to do with being around a busy, young family: "Durrin’s head was spinning. Too many people were talking at once."
********
2nd most realistic line in the chapter having to do with the nature of young children: “'More cheese!' said Queasle, banging his empty plate on the table."
Marriages on Zenitha (at least, on the Lurrian continent) are always performed by acolytes of either The Dawn Wardens, the Knights Vigilant, or the Luminant Order. The customs and traditions will vary depending on which order is doing the marriage, as well as from kingdom to kingdom and from species to species. Marriages by the Luminant Order have some similarity to Adara's coronation.
We'll likely get to see a marriage in a later book, so I won't go into more detail here.

I remember once, after I had been an adult for several years but before I had kids of my own, sitting down and watching some old family videos of my childhood. What stood out to me was the NOISE! Four high-energy kids just talking all over each other as they bounced around the room!
Now that I have 3 kids of my own, I can relate!

The phenomenon of young children calling stridently and incessantly for cheese is definitely something that came from my direct lived experience. ("Write what you know," they say.)
Thank you! When I originally wrote this chapter ~2-3 years ago, I was inspired by my brother, whose family at the time was nearly a mirror of Halorn's. Now I have three kids of my own! And they all love cheese (except for the newborn, but I'm sure it will come with time.)
Fun fact: In Zenitha, eternium wedding rings are family heirlooms, passed down from generation to generation. Because the metal is nearly indestructible once forged, rings can last for hundreds of years!
I was thinking about eternium the other day because currently at my residence there is a helium balloon that has stayed up for over a month, so I couldn't help joking to myself that perhaps it's actually an eternium balloon . . .
It's probably a prime vapor balloon. Prime vapor is less dense than helium, providing greater lifting power, and is unique among all gases in that its molecules form slight electrostatic connections with each other, giving it a "viscous" quality somewhat akin to water's surface tension. This means it is remarkably resistant to leaking out of a semipermeable container.

This was my favorite chapter so far! Really well-written and it's clear you have, and have been around, kids.

What a good uncle you were to never tire of dazzling them with pyromantic displays ;)
We did play "monster" on the playground quite a bit, but no open flames!
