“He smells . . . different. Yesterday, he reeked of confusion. Now he smells of resolve.”
I love this comment! I have long been aware that our thoughts and emotions send out vibrations that others can interpret, but being able to "smell" a person's intent is another matter. I also love the idea that resolve changes us! When we have a firm resolve, borne from powerful, emotional experiences, then we---like Durrin---can be unstoppable!
Durrin's greatest personal strength is his unrelenting drive. For much of the book up to this point, that drive has been subdued as he deals with conflicting priorities. But from hereon out, it's full throttle!
This particular line probably stemmed from the cliche, "Careful, [this animal] can smell fear."

Just to point out, Salidar . . .
. . . You should have let me and my crew handle Rendhart, like I offered in the first place.
I’d be careful if I were you . . .
I *am( being careful. Notice how my plan to take out Rendhart, detailed below, leaves me safely in the rear, supervising :)
And how, may I ask, would you have pulled that off?
Four words:
Grimbo. Distraction. Bjorn. Flying tackle.
Pretty sure that was more than four words.
We're not all good at math, o erudite cousin of mine.
The vocative "O" is capitalized, O barbaric cousin of mine.
Maybe I just decreased the font size of that one letter, Oh Punctilious Kin o' Mine.
